The USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service said in a statement that the global coffee production is expected to rise 11% from 7.5 million tons to 8.3 million tons. Most of the increase is attributed to Brazil’s increased production.
The coffee growing giant reached a record 3.3 million tons in 2010, an increase of 23% from last year. The second largest contender is Vietnam, with 1.1 million tons predicted for the year starting October 1, Indonesia lacing third with 576,000 tons expected next year.
Demand for coffee is expected to grow with the yearly global consumption expected to rise 2.2% to 7.8 million tons, according to the agency.
