US$45 million soluble plant

E-mail Print
Singaporean company Olam International Ltd, a leading global supply chain manager of agricultural products and food ingredients, has recently announced that it is investing approximately US$45 million in a green field integrated soluble (instant) coffee manufacturing facility in Vietnam. This investment is part of the company's ongoing strategy of expansion by introducing processing plants and machinery in all major coffee growing countries.

The facility will produce and supply bulk spray dried coffee powder, freeze dried coffee granules and coffee extracts to the unbranded and private coffee label market. As part of this investment, and to ensure premium quality output, Olam will be installing FT Technologies' Spinning Cone Column technology for recovery of aroma from their coffee extracts. This technology will enable Olam to maximize capture and retention of desirable coffee aroma for inclusion in their soluble products. Moreover, the Spinning Cone Column will facilitate control of aroma profile such that soluble coffees may be made to match specific consumer taste requirements.

Olam's extensive experience in the green bean market, deep understanding of the coffee industry and its investment in the Spinning Cone Column will assist it in building a leadership position in the soluble coffee industry thereby retaining their reputation as the "brand behind the brands".
